MyON

Session 1: Getting Started with myON Reader/News 8:30AM-11:15AM

Renaissance myON® Reader is a student-centered, personalized literacy environment that gives students access to more than 6,000 enhanced digital books. Titles are dynamically matched to each individual student’s interests, grade and Lexile® reading level. Combined with a suite of close reading tools and embedded supports, myON Reader fosters student engagement and achievement.

Outcomes:

· Introduction and Overview of myON Reader/News

· Understand Student and Faculty interfaces

· Using myON to support classroom teachers.

· Supporting students in completing Projects/tasks assigned by the teacher.

· Seeking support and Q&A

Session 2: Utilizing Data and Differentiating with myON 12:00PM-2:45PM

(prerequisite: completion of “Getting Started with myON Reader/News)

What data is available to teachers? What data can teachers pull from the faculty dashboard? What reports should teachers run, and how often? How do teachers run reports and download data? What instructional strategies can teachers model using myON Reader for shared reading, interactive read alouds, guided reading, strategy groups, conferring, word study, independent reading and writing?

Outcomes

· Explore myON reports. What reports/data points would you use to monitor usage and performance?

· How to encourage Students to take ownership of their data.

· Using Data to inform instruction, create small groups and differentiate.

Scribblitt

Facilitated by Sara Smith (Fablevision Learning)

This workshop will introduce MSAS program teachers to using Scribblitt software to write and publish books. This workshop will also provide teachers with deeper dive into The Art of Comprehension, an awesome approach to literacy by Trevor Bryan. You won't want to miss this!

Teachers/Administration will understand: (1) the District's goal for using Scribblitt in the MSAS program, and (2) how to integrate The Art of Comprehension approach to reading, animation, and writing for the MSAS program and beyond.

Animation-ish!

Think you’re not a good artist? You are! Computers make it easy and fun to animate. Learn the basics of animation using Animation-ish software. This class will be taught on Macintosh. You don’t need your computer to participate, just watch and learn!

Dreambox

Please bring your own laptop & Headphones

This training session on Dreambox Learning will include a review of teacher and student best practices. Educators will also learn about navigating the teacher dashboard; the Insight Dashboard. The dashboard brings your data into focus so you can get the answers you need to drive instructional decisions. Teachers will have an opportunity to examine student data, experience MyFlexPD, and create differentiated assignments for their students in AssignFocus.

ST Math

"ST Math is instructional software that teaches mathematics visually so that students develop a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics. Based on neuroscience research, ST Math develops students problem solving and creative thinking skills. Students have fun learning math by manipulating visual models.

In this interactive session, teachers will: a) develop an understanding of how the puzzles and games work in ST Math; b) learn how to get students started on ST Math; and c) understand how to monitor student progress and support student learning”.

Failure Free Reading

Your non-readers can quickly learn to read with expression and full comprehension commensurate to their cognitive ability thanks to our newly redesigned instructional software that teaches 72 highly-structured and predictable Power Stories containing the most intense, fastest-acting reading solution available for students with a developmental age of five years or higher and seem to be “stuck at skills” and just aren’t getting phonics or sight or Leveled Literacy!

The session will consist of a “fast-paced” combination of lecture, handouts, discussion of independent research findings and video presentations of actual student case studies. District 75 participants who have attended Dr. Joe’s sessions, consistently rank it as one of the best and most meaningful.

Achieve3000

Using Achieve3000’s TeenBiz3000, students will work through exciting informational text articles that are precisely matched to their individual reading level and automatically be supported with scaffolds as instructionally needed. Teachers can easily interact with provided guiding questions, group activities and by discussing the articles the student is reading. There are contests to promote student and teacher usage of the program as well as easily accessed reports to show the growth associated with that usage. This session will acclimate teachers to the program and provide a baseline understanding of the student experience and how teachers support student success.

Fletcher's Place

Training D75 MS students to use Fletcher’s Place reading program to tutor/mentor K-3 students (Invited School Only)

Fletcher’s Place™ is a reading program that is designed for struggling K – 3 students. It engages and motivates young children through multi-sensory and interactive activities, including a broad variety of structured games, short video lessons, songs, teaching props, storybooks.

In these lessons children interact with each other playing with sounds, words and meaning. In the context of play the children’s listening, speaking and writing skills are greatly enhanced.

Over the last 4 years we have trained D75 MS students to use Fletcher’s Place reading program to tutor/mentor K-3 students with great success for both the MS and elementary students.

In this workshop we will focus on:

· Sharing how schools have used it in different settings

· Training the MS students to tutor/mentor

· Showing short videos of MS students tutoring in elementary classroom

· Sharing the academic and social/emotions gains for both groups of students

· Implementing the tutor/mentor program
